It was a crazy day as the first game of the season kicked off. Camino Real Wildcats were playing the Zia Thunderbirds. Camino's defense was on a roll the whole first half of the game and they were playing hard. The offense wasn't impressing but they were getting some yards. By the 4th quarter, the game was still tied up 0-0. Both offences couldn't score and the defenses were stopping every run. Until the last 47 seconds; the Zia Thunderbirds were on a roll, getting the ball down the sideline and eventually they threw a tight-end pass through the middle and scored a touchdown. The next drive, Camino's offence had the ball. We slipped and threw an interception. Zia then threw another touchdown pass through the middle and passed it to the tight end. A big disppointment for the Wildcats as they lost 12-o to the Thunderbirds.
The first home game was against the Sierra Falcons. Camino's defense was on a big roll. Sierra fumbled their third down conversion and Camino recovered it. Camino scored easily against the Sierra defense. They led, 7-0. The fans were happy and Camino was doing great. Then again, the Wildcat defense was all over the Falcon offense, causing Sierra to fumble again. The Camino offense drove down the field and scored another touchdown. Camino then went for a 2 point conversion and made it! Throughout the whole game, Camino led Sierra 15-0. Camino won the game, making it a 1-1 season.
A breezy day at Picacho led to the third game: Camino versus Picacho. The Scorpions were 2-0 and hadn't been hit yet. Camino's offence was on a roll and leading 21-0 in the first half. As the Wildcats came back into the second half, fighting again, they pulled off a field goal after a great interception. The Camino Wildcats led 24-0 and won the game. Both offence and defense were amazing during that game!
A fine day at Vista. The 2-1 Wildcats faved the Vista Eagles who were 0-3. Vista didn't have much of a good start in their season and Camino wanted to show them who the city champs were. As Vista recovered a lost fumble, their offence got a first down and drive down the field. Camino wasn't playing their greatest and they only led by 14-0. But in the second, Camino Wildcats came in fighting and caught two interceptions as well as recovering two fumbles. Camino's offence was picking it up and scored 2 more touchdowns (without field goals). By the end of the game, Camino beat Vista 26-0.
For the last game of the regular season, Camino played the Lynn Cougars at Lynn. The kickoff began the massacre. Camino scored a touchdown. The Cougars were getting stopped every play and couldn't pull off a first down. At halftime, the Wildcats were up 21-0. In the second half, Lynn didn't want to disappoint themselves at their own field and so did an amazing play. The quarterback drew back and gave it to the running back, who handed it to the wide receiver. He got more than a big gain and scored with no penalties. Camino was disappointed because they had too many penalties. Camino's kick return was fumbled and recovered. The game was 21-7 and Lynn had the ball. They were planning to score again. It was 4th down and they didn't pass the marker BUT there was a flag on the play. It was on the Wildcats and the Lynn Cougars had the ball at 1st and goal. Camino held them to 3rd down but they eventually scored.
The game was 21-14. Camino didn't want the game to end on this note so they had a big run and scored another touchdown. The game ended 29-14 with a 2 point conversion by Camino.
Now the 4-1 Camino Real Wildcats are looking forward to once again playing the Picacho Scorpions at Camino on October 16th. If Camino wins, they will go to the City Championship game! Keep your hopes up because no one wants to end the season now.
